The design of some knives allows them to be better at some tasks than they are at others. Whether it be a 5 inch tanto folder or a fixed drop point, they all do the same thing, they cut, slice, pierce, poke, and chop. Everyday I wake up and decide what knife to carry that day.

Personally, I own multiple knives in every blade shape. Hopefully this gives you a better understanding of the terminology when it comes to some of the more common blades that are on the market. On one hand they are great for utility tasks but on the other you lose some of that valuable space where a big belly could be. Many people are torn when it comes to getting a knife with or without serrations. They’re great for utility tasks like cutting rope, slicing cardboard, and opening boxes. The serrations don’t slice through objects like a plain edge, rather in a way they tear it apart.

When using the serrations you’ll cut much quicker than you would if you had a normal blade. The little points and small concaved edges of serrations make them cutting machines. Though it looks like a cleaver, the advantages of the extended thumb contact along the spline as well as the nonexistence of that tiny, easily snapped point greatly add to the safety and control of use, while also increasing the practicality of the entire blade edge.Serrations- Those little scallops that you see at the bottom of a blade aren’t there to make the knife look cool, they actually serve a purpose. What to remember As a whole, I love this device. This made it possible for me to cut it off and weave my own (I wanted to make a monkey's fist using survivorcord) though I found it to be glued on instead. Please noteĪ cord is attached to the base with adhesive As early as two months ago, I though there was a hole at the base of the handle through which the cord had been threaded and woven thus making the knife easier to draw and possibly easier to grip. If only there was a scandia grind, or something similar for precise sharpening in the field, I would have paid dearly for it. If you choose something that is a little harder to sharpen, the edge should last for a longer time. When heavily used, this product is susceptible to denting and fairly easy to dull. This blade holds a sharp edge, but it isn't particularly strong. Would have been more effective if an alloy that is more durable had been chosen. It only took a couple of passes on my dremel tool with a sanding bit to make it work. The beads - Although the finish is attractive, it is impossible to use it as a striker for ferrous rods as a result of the blasting. I can see two drawbacks, however Please note It has the potential to be one of the best survivalist and camping knives one could find for its size. It's amazing how well this has been designed.
